You are from Boston if... You don't think you have an attitude or an accent You can cogently explain what 'down east' means. You think Philadelphia is always putting on airs especially because it is in the Midwest. Thanksgiving is not a national holiday, but a time to reaffirm why your relatives left England back in 1620 in the first place. You know New Yorkers are a deeply disturbed lot who wish they had the good fortune to live in the civilized world, Boston. You don't consider a nor'easter a massive storm, just nature's way of refilling Quabbin Reservoir. You refer to 6 inches of snow as a "dusting." You brand a player who signs with the Yankees a "traitor". When it comes to driving, you believe using a car's turn signal is a sign of weakness. You always 'bang a left' as soon as the light turns green. Oncoming traffic always expects it and wouldn't know what to do if you didn't. You are actually being considerate. You understand that a "common law" green light is one that it has been red so long, it must be broken. So its OK to run through it. You don't consider it unusual to run a changing light and then see five other cars do the same in your rear view window. You believe driving in a rotary is the ultimate game of chicken. You don't realize that you walk, talk and eat twice as fast as relatives who live elsewhere. You think if someone is nice to you, they are from out of town. You think Harvard is misunderstood. You consider the September U-Haul invasion is a pestilence. And finally, you know anyone who laughed at any of these statements, is from some other town in New England. Be sure to side up fro the Frugal Yankee newsletter for tips and ideas and yes, a weekly joke. |
