Kid’s birthday party coming up? Here's a frugal idea. Instead of gifts or party favors, have the kids bring a book to swap. It's frugal and smart. You can find more tips like these by listening to our podcast HOW TO KICK THE BIRTHDAY HABIT.

When negotiating with a car salesman, refrain from telling HOW you will pay for the car. Get your best deal first. Salespeople often make a nice commission on the financing. If you’re paying cash or already have financing in place, they’ll make less there and may not be as eager to make a good deal on the car.
